You’ll also want to look at the downtime of the company.  You can find graphs all over the internet or just read other users’ experience.  There’s no sense in having a blog if your visitors will have a hit and miss experience getting to it.  You may want to put your host on trial first by just going with a month to month contract.    You will initially pay more then signing a contract for a year, or even a two year contract, but you’ll have the flexibility of being able to change to a service that fits your needs if your web blog host isn’t up to speed.

When you start looking for a blog web host you’ll need to consider your experience level.  A month to month contract may be the way to go if you have never setup a blog before.  You’ll want to consider the fact that you might not even like blogging.  If you have unreasonable expectations of how your blog should perform you may be disappointed when you aren’t making thousands of dollars a month after a lot of hard work.  It takes a lot of time to really start making money from a blog so you need to be prepared to wait it out and keep working when there really seems like there isn’t a benefit.

If you don’t have the time to maintain a blog and learn html then free web hosting may be the way you want to go.  There is a small learning curve for this kind of software.  Subdomains, such as you’ll find with a free web host aren’t the best for monetizing your site or creating a brand, but for a basic online journal it will be fine for personal use.  This way you won’t have to make an initial investment or even decide if your blog is really worth keeping up because of the money.

Web blog hosting can seem like a lot of money to spend in one shot for something that you aren’t sure whether it’s going to pay off or not.  Blogging has its ups and downs, its good days and its bad days.  The plus side is that you have unlimited earning potential as a blogger.  The downside is that you have no guarantees.  Choose a blog host that you are comfortable with and that suits your budget.
